    Overview

    This qualification equips learners with the knowledge and skills to work inclusively with diverse participants – including those with disabilities and impairments – meeting the industry requirements set out in CIMSPA’s professional standards.

    Learners will explore the Activity Inclusion Model (AIM) and Space Time Equipment People (STEP) model and learn how to keep adults and adults at risk safe from harm. Learners who choose the optional unit will also show their ability to work with participants with impairments, using a participant-centred approach to challenge and support them through modification, adaptation and progression.

    This qualification designed to be assessed in stages with learners demonstrating the knowledge, skill and behaviours outlined in one stage before proceeding to the next.

    Learners completing Assessment Stages 1-2 will:

    • Fully meet the requirements of the CIMSPA Safeguarding Adults and adults at risk professional standard.
    • Partially meet the requirements of the CIMSPA Working inclusively (working with disabled people) professional standard.

    Learners completing Assessment Stages 1-3 will:

    • Fully meet the requirements of the CIMSPA Safeguarding Adults and adults at risk professional standard.
    • Fully meet the requirements of the CIMSPA Working inclusively (working with disabled people) and professional standard.

    Qualification details

    This qualification contains content to support learners to:

    • Understand the importance of inclusive working and its effects on participation in physical activity.
    • Recognise the benefits of physical activity and exercise for individuals with disabilities and impairments.
    • Plan and adapt exercise and physical activities for individuals with disabilities and impairments.
    • Screen, assess and deliver inclusive exercise sessions for individuals with disabilities and impairments.
    • Understand the principles of safeguarding adults and adults at risk.
    • Recognise the importance of safeguarding policies in organisations and the impact of legislation on these policies.
    • Identify and respond to potential indicators of abuse and poor practice. Manage risks in safeguarding adults and adults at risk within their own role.

    This qualification has 3 assessment stages with 5-9 assessment tasks:

    Assessment stage 1 – Assesses learners’ understanding of working inclusively with people with disabilities and impairments.

    • Knowledge questions.
    • Information resources.
    • Applied case study questions.

    Assessment stage 2 – Assesses learners’ awareness and understanding of safeguarding for adults and adults at risk.

    • Knowledge questions.
    • Applied case studies (Categories 1 and 2 only).
    • Witness Testimony (Category 2 only).
    • Portfolio and professional discussion (Category 3 only).

    Assessment stage 3 (Optional unit) – Assesses learners’ ability to plan/deliver exercise and fitness sessions for clients with disabilities and impairments.
