    Overview

    By completing this qualification, learners will meet industry requirements to work and engage their local community in physical activity, as set out within the CIMSPA professional standard.

    The purpose of this qualification is to develop the knowledge and skills of qualified group exercise instructors and/or fitness instructors in order for them to be able to work collaboratively with individuals and groups within community settings. Completing this qualification will enable learners to research, plan and deliver programmes encouraging physical activity and wellness that have been identified as being lacking within a community and gain insight into how to ensure sustainability through the creation of partnerships.

    Qualification details

    Learners will cover:

    Understanding communities, cultures and customs and existing provisions for physical activity
    How to build relationships with individuals and groups in communities
    Identifying key contacts and networks
    How to engage with individuals to support behaviour change
    Addressing barriers to participation in physical activity and promoting long-term change
    Awareness of mental and physical benefits of being active
    How to plan, facilitate and deliver sustainable programmes meeting the needs of a community
    How to plan and deliver appropriate sport, physical activity or health and wellbeing programmes
    How to use feedback to reflect on the success of a programme within a community

    To achieve this qualifications, learners must complete 1 mandatory unit. There are 5 assessment tasks:

    Community research project (interview) overview, objectives and checklist
    Worksheet
    Poster, leaflet or infographic design
    Session overview and plan
    Session observation and evaluation
