- Learners must be ages 16 plus
- Ideally should have some experience of group or gym-based exercises as participation in a variety of practical sessions will be required throughout the qualification
- Learners should also have communication skills pitched at level 2 which can be developed during the course.

Overview
By completing this qualification, learners will meet industry requirements to become a multi-disciplined Fitness Instructor, meeting the requirements of a range of CIMSPA professional standards.
The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and competence they need to follow a career as an exercise and fitness instructor.
Learners will meet the requirements of occupational, population and environment specialisms, allowing access to jobs working in the exercise and fitness sector in a range of settings and with a range of clients.

Learners will cover:
- Anatomy and physiology covering:
- the heart and circulatory system
- the digestive system
- the respiratory system
- the structure and function of the skeleton
- the musculoskeletal system o postural and core stability
- the nervous and energy systems, and their relation to exercise
- Principles of working in an exercise environment, including customer service and how to maintain health, safety and welfare.
- How to communicate with clients effectively and motivate clients to follow an exercise programme.
- Employment law, industry-specific legislation and procedures that apply to their jobs.
- The subsectors that make up the active leisure and learning sector.
- How to promote the health benefits of physical activity.
- Understanding mental health conditions and support opportunities.
- How to engage inactive people in regular physical activity.
- How to identify and create opportunities for participation in sport, physical activity or wellbeing programmes within the community.
- Understanding the benefits of a balanced diet and its contribution to a healthy lifestyle.
- How to plan and prepare individual and or group exercise sessions.
- How to programme a variety of safe and effective exercise sessions for a range of clients.
- How to instruct a variety of exercise sessions with children and or adults.
