    Overview

    By completing this qualification, learners will meet industry requirements to become a Personal Trainer, as set out within the CIMSPA professional standard. Learners will also complete additional content to expand their scope of practice, enabling them to either build in the use of portable equipment or work with larger groups.

    The purpose of this qualification is to enable learners to coach clients towards their health and fitness goals. Learners will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to plan and deliver creative and personalised exercise programmes, provide nutritional advice and support clients with their overall lifestyle management.

    Completing this qualification will provide learners with access to CIMSPA Practitioner membership, the industry prerequisite to access self-employed and employed personal trainer roles.

    Our Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training (Practitioner) in Indoor and Outdoor Environments (603/3505/1) supports Gym Instructors to upskill to become Personal Trainers with additional scope to build in the use of portable equipment or work with larger groups.

    Learners will cover:

    • Anatomy and physiology knowledge as applicable to personal training.
      • Nutrition and its application to support a client’s health and physical activity programme.
      • Health and wellbeing and factors that affect this.
      • Effective communication during client consultations to promote and encourage healthy lifestyle behaviours and long-term change.
      • Designing and planning effective Personal Training sessions for a range of clients in different environments.
      • Executing effective physical activity sessions for a range of clients in different environments.
      • Professional practice and legal requirements for Personal Training.
      • Business acumen for working in both an employed role and for self-employment.
      • Self-evaluation and professional development.
      • Planning and delivering a group exercise session in an outdoor environment.
      • Working with clients for sports conditioning.
    • Learners completing the Kettlebell and Suspended Movement Training pathway will also:
      • Plan, prepare and instruct kettlebell exercise sessions, making the activities imaginative, progressive and effective
      • Lead suspended movement training exercise sessions, making the activities imaginative, progressive and effective
    • Learners completing the Group Exercise pathway will also cover:
      • The skills and knowledge required to plan and deliver group exercise sessions with apparently healthy adults.

    To achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training (Practitioner), Outdoor Exercise and Sports Conditioning (603/3510/5), learners need to achieve 8 mandatory units and 2 optional units. The Kettlebells and Suspended Movement pathway has 25 assessment tasks. The Group Exercise pathway has 23 assessment tasks.
